Myth 1. People under 30 do not participate in
religious activities.
Worshipers, on average, are older than the U.S. population. In fact, the average age of worshipers is 50 years and the average age of the U.S. population (based on the 2000 Census) is 35 years. The largest group of worshipers is those between the ages of 45 and 64. But the graph shows that there are a fair number of younger people participating in worship in this country. And within some congregations this percentage is fairly high. What are such congregations doing to attract and retain young people?
