Resources for Using Your Survey Results

Your package of survey results will include many resources to help you and your congregation make the best use of the results.  Others are available here.  We’ve grouped them below as they relate to the three reports you will receive that show your congregation’s results.  Additional resources are listed here.

  • The Questions and Your Answers Report — a customized report that shows every survey question and the percentage of your worshipers who selected each answer. (See sample Questions and Your Answers Report PDF icon)
  • The Connections Report — a customized, 8-page color report that will give you a detailed picture of who your worshipers are, their involvement in the congregation and the community, what they value about the congregation, and their hopes for the future. The Connections Report shows your worshipers’ responses in comparison to the national benchmarks for all congregations that have participated.  (See sample Connections Report PDF icon )   The following resources are for use with this report:
    • The DVD “A Field Guide to U.S. Congregations” will help you walk through the report and understand your congregation’s results. [included with your results]
    • A Word document of the script of this DVD can be downloaded here.
    • The Connecting Leader Guide PDF icon will help you use your results.  It is particularly effective when a group from your congregation examines your Connections Report. 
    • The Connecting Resource Kit PDF icon provides reproducible handouts and other tools for use with the Connecting Leader Guide.
    • The book, A Field Guide to U.S. Congregations, summarizes the national results for all worshipers who participated in the survey. [included with your results; order additional copies from Cokesbury or any online bookseller]
    • PowerPoint templates to use when presenting the results from your Connections Report to a group.  Each graph on your report is formatted and the national benchmarks are already in place.  All you have to do is enter your congregation’s results from your report.
      • Basic — includes all graphs and charts from your Connections Report.
      • Extended — includes all graphs and charts from your Connections Report and other material for use with the Connecting Leader Guide.
  • The Strengths Report — a customized 10-page, color report that shows your congregation's scores on 10 important strengths. The Strengths Report shows how your congregation compares to other congregations similar to yours in terms of size and denomination or faith group.     • The Leader Guide—Your Congregation’s Strengths Report—will help you use your results to identify your congregation’s strengths and to make changes.  [included with your results]

    • Answers to Frequently Asked Questions About the Strengths Report PDF icon will help you understand the details about this report.
    • Nuggets — a packet of 8 of Herb Miller’s Nuggets that offer detailed, how-to resources for use with the 10 strengths—are available from U.S. Congregations. [ordering details included with your results]
    • PowerPoint template to use when presenting the results from your Strengths Report to a group.  The table for each strength is already set up.  All you have to do is add your congregation’s results.

    • Mapping Change :  Comparing Results After Repeating the Survey PDF icon — If your congregation has taken the survey more than once, use this guide to identify and understand change.
    • Additional Reports to Help You Dig Deeper — These reports show differences among subgroups within your congregation.  Available online.  (Note.  Some congregations do not have enough survey responses to be able to produce these reports.)  [login information included with your results]
      • Survey Responses Based on Membership Status (compares the responses of members to non-members)
      • Survey Responses Based on Time Attending the Congregation (compares responses based on how long worshipers have been attending there—10 years or fewer; 11 to 20 years; more than 20 years)
      • Survey Responses Based on Age of Worshipers (compares responses based on worshipers’ ages—15 to 24; 25 to 44; 45 to 64; 65 and older)
